The Jumbo-Visma winning streak continues as Christophe Laporte grabbed a solo win at stage 19. The stage was held at Cahors, on Friday, 22nd July.
With just one kilometer left to the finish line, Laporte attacked the trio, including Fred Wright (Bahrain Victorious), Jasper Stuyven (Trek–Segafredo) and Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck). He took a solo victory, which was quite obvious by now, breaking away from the trio.
The win makes Christophe Laporte a first stage winner of french origin at the Tour 2022. The win has surely saddened the sprinters, as Castelnau-Magnoac presented itself with many oppertunities for the seeking.
Laporte, still surprised by his remarkable win, talked to the media:
I still can’t believe I’ve won,The team really trusted me today and Wout told me that today was for me after we had a great Tour.
He talked about their implied strategy as a team:
Our first goal was to make sure Vingegaard was safe with three kilometers to go. Then just before entering the last kilometer I saw that there was a gap and I made the jump to the front group. I can’t believe I could finish it off
