Giovanni Lonardi has just won his first race of the European Road Season, winning the Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana (1969) is no easy feat but the Italian soared through the tracks with an amazing sprint. His performance left behind powerful racers like Chris Lawless and Amaury Capiot.
This impressive victory is Lonardi’s first after joining the team Eolo-Kometa, he made the transition from Bardiani-CSF in winter of 2021.
Last year, the Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana track proved to be very treacherous. There were many crashes in the peloton, although this was not the case this time.
Chris Lawless on the other hand showed his true performance, during the final 200 meters he really outdid himself. In the end, it was a ferocious battle between Lawless and Lonardi. This is Lonardi’s fourth professional win and his performance really impressed team manager Alberto Contador (Eolo-Kometa). In order to make things official, a photograph was taken for this history book.
The Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana is an impressive 175 km race, and for the teams that have made Costa Blanca, their winter training base would have no problem with the tricky ascent.
The early part of the afternoon during Valencia was filled with gentle rain, as the race grew intense, the weather and atmosphere also got better. Lonardi’s skills helped him avoid a crash during the race and catapulted him to the finish line leaving Lawless and Capiot behind.
