The first summit finish of the Vuelta a España has ended and the results are in. In a surprising turn of events, Jay Vine of the team Alpecin-Deceuninck has claimed victory on the toughest stage of the Vuelta so far.
Jay gained an edge by attacking the early slopes. Once he gained the lead, he managed to maintain it up till the finish line while the race favorites were left to fight for the scraps. Closing in on 15 seconds after Jay was QuickStep-AlphaVinyl’s Remco Evenepoel. In third place, we have Movistar’s Enric Mas, who closed in at 16 seconds.
The ex-red jersey holder Primož Roglič was nowhere to be seen among the top 3. The Jumbo-Visma rider managed to finish in fifth place.
