Tour de France looses Primož Roglič as the team Jumbo-Visma confirmed on Sunday i.e. 17th July that the team leader will not be seen continuing in stage 15. The rider suffered from injuries on the cobbles stage at Paris-Roubaix, which have forced him to withdraw from the event to recover.
Apparently, Roglič dislocated his shoulder when a race motorbike moved a hay bale on the road. He, then, put his shoulder back in, on his own, and continued the race, but things have not been the same for him.
Afterwards, Jonas Vingegaard took up the role of the team’s leader, while Roglič took the back seat. He let his teammates take control, including green jersey leader Wout van Aert. Primož ranked 21st, 33:39 minutes behind Vingegaard.
Nevertheless, he is proud of the contributions he has made at the tour so far, he communicated his feelings through a message saying:
I’m proud of my contribution to the current standings and I trust that the team will realise our yellow and green ambitions. Thanks to everybody for your great support
Last year, Primož had to abandon the tour because of a similar fate. He crashed at stage 8 and then could not continue any further. This, now, marks as the second consecutive tour the rider had to abandon.
Primož Roglič then made a striking comeback, winning the time trial at the Tokyo Olympics as well as the Vuelta a España. It is speculated that the young rider will lead the team in the season’s final Grand Tour again.
