Lorena Wiebes won Baloise Ladies Tour’s second day. The DSM rider was seen flying across the finish line in Zulte on 15th July, Thursday. Mylene de Zoete (AG Insurance-NXTG Team) stood second, while Amber van der Hulst (Liv Racing Xstra) was seen crossing third.
Lorena is now the GC leader, leaving behind Ellen Van Dijk (Trek-Segafredo) by one second. Audrey Cordon-Ragot of Trek-Segafredo is third at 14 seconds behind. Pfeiffer Georgi was termed the best young rider.
Valentina Scandolara (Aromitalia-Basso Bikes-Vaiano), Loes Sels (Promimus-Alphamotorhomes-Doltcini), and Typhaine Laurance (Arkéa Pro Cycling) formed a group of the trio that chased the final line with 11.5 km to go.
Georgi directed Wiebes in the last lap, not allowing anyone else to come forward. On the last 200 meters, Lorena Wiebes spared no room for mercy as she sprinted towards victory. This is her 11th win of the season so far.
Wiebes was proud of her win, but she was also proud of her team, as she said:
The team did a really good job, we controlled the race from the beginning onwards
De Groot tried her best to take the win she launched a sprint and managed to lead the peloton for 30 km but eventually, the peloton caught up. Sels delivered the second sprint and caught up with Scandolara, who had launched an attack earlier.
But their attacks were not enough to catch up with Dutch cyclist, who looked all glorified on the podium.
