Marc Hirschi got an amazing start to his 2022 cycling season with a beautiful victory at Per Sempre Alfredo. The Swiss rider conquered the challenging one-day hilly race without any kind of problems, his performance was surely a sight to behold!
Hirschi got to share the podium with Dion Smith (BikeExchange-Jayco) and Remy Mertz (Bingoal-Pauwels Sauces-WB), both of them finished the race mere seconds behind Hirschi. It is good to see varying teams perform so exquisitely under some challenging circumstances.
Hirschi’s win is the 20th victory of UAE Team Emirates this season and the rider’s fourth win of his incredible career. His victories include a stage of Tour De France, Tour de Luxembourg, and La Flèche Wallonne. An impressive collection of victories to be sure!
His skills were beautifully executed as he created a 10-second gap between the leading group, and when he attacked at the final climb of Collina. He held off riders, did not give them any kind of opening, and led himself to victory.
After the race, Hirschi stated:
I’m really delighted with this win, it means a lot. I’ve worked so hard together with my team over the past months to come back and it makes me really happy to do it like this.
I have to thank my team for their confidence and for all the work they’ve done in getting me to this point. Watching the team achieving everything they have this season was huge motivation while I was on the sidelines and it feels great to be back with them in the peloton again.
This year’s race of Per Sempre Alfredo was the second edition of the event. It is also stated as Per Sempre “Forever” Alfredo, named after the legendary Italian National Coach. Stay tuned for more updates!
