Mark Cavendish is set to make his 2022 season debut at the Tour Of Oman, as he currently rides for UCI WorldTeam Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team, he will be at the charge for victory. We last saw Cavendish at the 2021 Tour De France so this time the excitement is at an all-time high.
Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl has assembled a six-member squad to tackle the Tour of Oman and other classifications. The squad is certainly impressive as it contains Mark Cavendish at the helm, Iljo Keisse, Mauro Schmid, Stijn Steels, Stan Van Tricht, and Ethan Vernon. The lineup is certainly stronger than ever and let’s hope that they achieve the victories that they have set out for.
Mark Cavendish won the final stage of the Tour Of Oman back in 2011 and we have not seen the Tour take place since the last two years. The Tour is set to kickstart from February 10 and will be a six-day race event, the event will be placed through different but gorgeous vistas like the Green Mountain Jabal al Akhdar.
2022 did not mark a good year of Mark Cavendish, first, he crashed during the Gent Six-Day and was later hospitalized due to serious injuries including a collapsed lung and broken ribs. As this was not enough, robbers broke into his house and threatened his family, this left another traumatic scar on him. Although he quickly recovered from this and has been training in Portugal at the team’s camp.
This might be the last professional season for Mark Cavendish as he will be turning 37 this year, he won four stages of the Tour De France last year, although this time he and the team are aiming higher than before.
Klaas Lodewyck, QuickStep-Alpha Vinyl sports director explained,
The Tour of Oman is back and comes with a nice course, with many stages finishes already used at many of the previous editions. We will try to be in the mix with Mark in the bunch sprints, and if possible, do something with Fausto in the general classification.
He has just returned from a training camp and is motivated to kick off his season. Overall, we go there with a solid team, capable of getting some good results.
The 2022 cycling season is certainly looking great for the Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl team as Remco Evenepoel conquered the opening stage of Volta A La Comunitat Valenciana. All eyes are on Mark Cavendish as he will be leading the six-man squad, exciting times are certainly ahead!
