Biking in Morocco ROCKS
We are Argan Xtreme Sports - a biking company started in Marrakech Morocco in 2010. We have a retail outlet for Giant Bikes MTB, Road and Hybrid, rentals of the same and tours in the High Atlas Mountains. If you don't know the Atlas Mountains imagine the peaks reach 4000 meters just 1 hours drive away from Marrakech! The roads are superb and off road options many. By the way we also do have bike boxes so if you are coming to Marrakech with your bike stop by the shop at the start or finish of the ride if you need a box.
Marrakesh Airport RAK
The airport is only 3km from the city centre, so its easy to cycle. Alternatively there is an airport bus which runs along a set route dropping off outside the main hotels and sights. This only costs 20DH ($2US) and the driver will let you put your bike on the bus.
A grand-taxi from the airport to the city 'should' cost in the region of 50DH, but when they see your bike this will almost certainly double! Bike's get strapped on the roof or in the boot with no problems.
Marrakech is a great place to explore on a bike and a good place to start a cycling tour of Morocco. Near the Djemaa el Fna (main square) there are lots of shops selling basic cycle spares..tubes etc.
Royal Air Moroc
I have flown many times return from Heathrow to Morocco with a bicycle. These are a few pointers to getting your bike accepted by Royal Air Moroc:
1. Box your bike
2. Keep your total luggage limit (including your bike) below 30kg. I’ve only been charged once but did have 35kg!
3. The RAM check in staff in Morocco are much more strict with luggage allowances.
