Nairo Quintana from Team Arkéa-Samsic has just bagged another victory of the month after winning the final stage of the Tour Du Var. It was surely a beautiful win in Blausasc and this was all done through a great display of teamwork.
For a moment, during the race, he was even with the second stage winner Tim Wellens from Lotto Soudal, but during the final stretch, Quintana just pushed through and passed the finish line in the first place. It was truly a spectacular show!
This race was still packed by many hurdles for the Colombian, on the descent of the last major climb, he was ambushed by Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) but he was not alone, the attack on Quintana was supported by Nicolas Edet. Still, despite all of their efforts, Quintana left those two behind and claimed the winner’s jersey.
Desperate situations call for desperate measures surely. During the last ten kilometers of the race, Wellens joined up with other riders for a final push. Amongst the group were Guillaume Martin (Cofidis), Michael Storer (Groupama-FDJ), and Alexis Vuillermoz (TotalEnergies). This effort was still in vain though as Quintana had long passed them.
Nairo finished the race at 1:21, and the crowd went wild after his stunning win. There are plenty of more races in the Colombian’s schedule and this is certainly not the last we will see of him. Stay tuned for more exciting updates!
