After spending almost a decade at Lotto Soudal, Tim Wellens has decided to switch teams. The switch information was announced by the rider himself on Tuesday, 9th August, who now feels that it’s time to explore new opportunities. Tim said:
After ten great years with my former team, I decided it was time for a new challenge
The 31-year-old Belgian still has some months left at Lotto Soudal as a part of his contract. He will join his new team UAE Team Emirates in the next year, 2023. Tim has won Grand-Tour stages 4 times and he feels that he is now shifting to a truly Global team. Lotto Soudal is focused on having a generation of more young riders now, but they will surely miss their star rider.
Forged in our Development team to winning more than 3⃣0⃣ races as a pro during over a decade at Lotto Soudal, what an honour it has been to have you in the team, @Tim_Wellens! 🤗
Let’s make it a good last few months together! 👊

Tim Wellens, on the other hand, is quite happy with his new contract and can’t wait to hop on board with his new team. One can get an idea of his excitement from when he said:
I feel like I’m joining a truly global team at the UAE Emirates with a really professional structure and a lot of ambition. I’m very excited to get started and be part of the squad for 2023 and beyond.
